“Toyota Hiace ambulance” describes a base platform, not a fixed patient transport layout. The right configuration depends on the patient, clinical staff and equipment that must travel together. Start with the service to be delivered and then review the available chassis and conversion.
Define the patient journey
Record whether the vehicle carries one stretcher patient, seated patients, or both. Describe the level of care during the journey and how many attendants need safe travel seats. Note transfers between hospitals, routine patient movement and emergency response separately, since these may demand different storage and access.
Compare body and roof arrangements
Request a dimensioned drawing for the exact Hiace model, roof and steering position offered. Check headroom at the stretcher, door opening, loading path and working space beside the patient. The available space on one chassis or market variant should not be assumed to apply to another.
Specify equipment by clinical need
List the stretcher and fixation system, oxygen, suction, electrical outlets, medical devices and cabinets actually required. State which items are supplied by the buyer. Ask the supplier to show how every portable item is restrained in transit and how equipment can be reached during care.
Test the proposal against operating conditions
Give the destination, climate, road conditions, typical journey length and expected daily use. Ask about patient compartment heating and cooling, electrical supply when stationary and service access. Check the fully loaded weight with passengers and equipment against the permitted gross vehicle weight.
Turn the layout into a contract attachment
Approve one drawing and one equipment schedule before production. Include factory acceptance criteria, training, documentation, delivery responsibilities and separate warranty periods in the order. Changes made after that point should be documented and priced explicitly.
