A mobile operating room is a coordinated clinical facility. The vehicle body, clinical equipment, clean workflow and utilities must be designed together. Before asking manufacturers for prices, establish the intended procedures and the authority that will approve the unit in its operating location.
Define the service
Describe the procedures, expected team size and whether the unit will operate independently or alongside a fixed hospital. List the equipment the buyer supplies and the equipment the vehicle manufacturer must integrate. Avoid using “turnkey” without an itemized scope and responsibility matrix.
Review movement through the unit
Ask for a plan showing patient entry and exit, staff access, handwashing, sterile supplies, used material and waste. Show the operating table, anaesthesia work area, equipment positions and safe clearances. The clinical team should approve the workflow before production drawings are frozen.
Specify utilities by load
Request electrical demand for each device and a schedule that identifies essential and nonessential circuits. Define shore power, backup supply and the transfer arrangement. The HVAC brief should state the required indoor conditions and operating climate; the proposal should explain filtration, maintenance access and how performance will be tested. List medical gas connection and storage requirements separately.
Assign compliance and service duties
Ask each bidder to identify the standards and local permits applicable to this particular project, and provide evidence for any claimed conformity. Specify who installs, commissions and services third-party devices and who trains the clinical staff.
Make acceptance measurable
Agree on factory inspections and site acceptance checks for installed equipment, electrical protection, environmental performance, fixtures and documentation. Record the test conditions and remedies for deficiencies before signing the contract.
